| Special Features: | Xenopus laevis b-galactosidase. The whole plasmid is 7162bp. This vector produces a bgal protein that is localized to the cytoplasm. It can be used either to produce bgal as a marker, or to construct bgal fusion protein. Such proteins are often functional. The bgal sequences start with the 9th amino acid of the wild-type bgal protein. The EcoRI site normally present in the lacZ (bgal) gene has been removed by a silent point mutuation. The stop codon has also been removed to allow C-terminal fusions to bgal. Without any insert, the polylinker adds 13 amino acids to the C terminus of bgal. This does not appear to alter the function of bgal. Note that C terminus of the lacZ is derived from pPD16.43 (Fire, A et al 1990, Gene 93: 189-198) |
